International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Job: Vacancies for Electrician, Research Technician I

THE ORGANIZATION:

IITA, is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solution with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals to fill the positions below at the institute’s Kano Station and Headquarters in Ibadan.

POST TITLE:   Electrician (2-year renewable Contract)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Successful candidate will:

1. Carry out all types of electrical installation systems and their maintenance,

2. Install electric motors and their control gears,
 

3. Maintain household appliances, like electric boilers, dryers etc.,
 

4. Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

1. National Diploma (Electrical Engineering), Trade Test I or C & G Intermediate in Electrical Installation Work. Five years post qualification relevant working experience in a reputable organization,

2. Candidate must be physically fit, honest and able to work under pressure. Ability to drive a vehicle (with the possession of valid Driver’s License).

POST TITLE:   Research Technician I: (2-year renewable Contract)

LOCATION:   Kano Station

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Successful candidate will:

1. Clean and sort planting materials for Laboratory, Screen House and field trials;
 

2. Collect data in Laboratory, Screen house and field trials;
 

3. Participate in arranging training for farmers;
 

4. Carry out maintenance activities in the laboratory and screen houses;

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

1. ND (General Agriculture) or related discipline with at least 2 years post qualification relevant working experience in research organization or university,
 

2. Candidates must be hardworking highly dedicates reliable and ready to work long hours.,
 

3. Working knowledge of Hausa language is added advantage: ability to drive a vehicle (with the possession of valid Drivers’ license) and computer literacy are very vital.
