BACKGROUND:
Nigeria Northern Education Initiative (NEl) is a USAlD-funded project whose aim is to strengthen state and local government capacity to deliver basic education services by addressing key issues in the management, sustainability; and oversight of basic education.The project will also increase the access of orphans and vulnerable children to basic education and services such as health information and counseling in Nigeria’s two northern states of Bauchi and Sokoto.
POST TITLE: Deputy Chief of Party/State Coordinator – Sokoto
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Deputy Chief of Party/State Coordinator (Sokoto) will be responsible for ensuring the coordination and integration of education and OVC activities at the state level. While he/she will serve as the focal point for project management at the state level, he/she will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the project’s state office in Sokoto.
REPORTING & SUPERVISION:
The Deputy Chief of Party/Slate Coordinator will report to the Chief of Party in the Bauchi Office.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure all USAID project implementation regulations at the state level are properly followed through the life of the agreement,
- Oversee the development and implementation of work plans for all activity areas in Sokoto State (systems strengthening and governance, teacher systems and support, OVC education and systems, and OVC referrals and supplemental support), ensuring integration between education and OVC activities wherever possible,
- Ensure coordination of state-level activities and obtain support from state government authorities as needed,
- With the Project Chief of Party; recruit, hire and manage office support staff and consultants as needed to ensure the smooth implementation of project activities in Sokoto State across technical areas,
- Ensure the timely production, coordination, reporting and dissemination of all state-level data: quarterly reports, M&E data, financial information, etc.,
- Participate in regular meetings and maintain regular communication with State-level technical advisors and the Chief of Party; to ensure coherent planning, M&E practices, and project troubleshooting,
- Represent the project in major state meetings and events as appropriate,
- Coordinate NEI activities with other USAID and other donor-supported projects,
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicant should have Master’s degree in Education or Social Sciences (M.sc) with at least 10 years cognate experience in project management.
- Working knowledge of USAID funded projects and other donors.
- Good English communication skills (oral and written) and fluent in Hausa Language, Required good interpersonal skills, flexibility in work and a team player attitude,
- Thorough knowledge of MS office application, including power point and Excel.
