POST TITLE:   Product Marketing Manager (SMB Focus), Nigeria – Lagos

This position is based in Lagos, Nigeria.

THE AREA: Marketing, Product Marketing

The Product Marketing team partners with Engineering, Product Management, and the Sales organization to inform customers and the Sales team about new Google products and features. We conduct extensive market research to better understand and meet our users’ needs. Working within our portfolio of consumer products (such as Search, Gmail, Maps, or Earth), we devise plans to make our users happier and increase the usefulness of our products. We use quantitative analysis and other research methods to improve the effectiveness of online marketing and better understand user behavior. Finally, Product Marketing works with our Ads product teams to communicate to advertisers and users how much value they gain from using Google products. As new advertising technologies are introduced to prospective customers, we develop messaging, collateral, events, and sales strategies to ensure their success.

THE ROLE: Product Marketing Manager (SMB Focus), Nigeria
Our Challenge in Africa, is to bring more and more people and advertisers online, and help create an important role for the Internet as part of everyday life. One of the core focus areas for us is to bring more African businesses online, so that consumers will have more and more reasons to use the web.
As a Product Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for supporting Google’s growth and revenue generating efforts in Nigeria through effective and results-focused marketing campaigns working together with the Country Marketing Manager primarily on getting Nigerian businesses online. Your main objective would be to drive more businesses online, helping make the internet a part of everyday life in Nigeria.
Your responsibilities will include working with the country team, the PR team, engineering and product teams, and the rest of the EMEA marketing team to drive projects such as executing marketing campaigns, determining ROI on advertising expenditures and developing collateral that optimally positions the strengths of our products. As we are creating unique custom products for this region, you will work closely with the product and Engineering team, providing them insights and market intelligence as part of the product development process.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Execute Google’s marketing plans primarily focusing on small business, working closely with the Google product, sales and PR team,
  • Work with partners and SMBs to create a self sustaining environment for businesses coming online,
  • Contribute to the the monitoring of consumer, industry and competitive behavior and provide local market expertise to the Google team,
  • Evaluate business marketing opportunities and initiate programmes to increase awareness of Google products through development of creative programmes, brand awareness campaigns and promotions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • BA/BS degree preferred, MBA a plus,
  • Extensive marketing experience in the market, ideally with solid internet, online services/media industry experience,
  • International experience a plus,
  • Understanding of Google’s strategic and competitive position. Proven ability to deliver outstanding and highly creative marketing achievements with limited budgets,
  • A proven, successful track record of increasing company revenue and awareness through well-executed marketing efforts,
  • Thorough knowledge of off/online advertising planning, tracking and reporting,
  • Strong aptitude for determining the optimal way to position products in the market and understanding of the search, online advertising, or web publishing markets.

POST TITLE: New Business Development Manager, West Africa – Lagos
This position is based in Lagos, Nigeria.

THE AREA: New Business Development

The New Business Development group works with Product, Engineering and other teams on new product incubation and exploratory efforts, technology and meta-data licensing, strategic partnerships, urgent special projects, and alternative distribution for existing and new business initiatives. Our team consists of creative, entrepreneurial, highly organized leaders, well versed in a broad range of technologies, who can spot opportunities, evaluate inbound inquiries, build partnerships, collaborate with many internal functional groups globally, and negotiate and close business deals.
 
THE ROLE: New Business Development Manager, West Africa

New Business Development Managers are self-starters who will work closely with the Google Product team on new initiatives and key strategic relationships. They are recognized experts within their business group and external partners. They make progress with ambiguity, work in challenging environments and pro- actively communicate and manage project status to achieve success. In this position, you will lead and initiate cross-functional company-wide projects and pro-actively seek out initiatives to improve the Google business in Africa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide African thought leadership to New Business Development team. Guide and manage cross functional team members on a variety of products and deal types,
 
2. Lead and own high impact, high priority and immediate projects across West Africa,
 
3. Expand and lead entrepreneurial opportunities. In addition to sourcing high priority, high impact deals that align with the company and regional strategy,
 
4. Lead and initiate cross-functional African-wide initiatives,
 
5. Influence business strategies based on expertise and understanding of industry landscape, trends and competitors.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. BA/BS degree or equivalent (MBA preferred),

2. Significant African experience, including experience in business development, partner management, product management or product marketing in industries relevant to Google,
 
3. Experience identifying partners, analyzing and facilitating complex deal structures with a proven track record of deal negotiation and execution,
 
4. In-depth experience operating within cross-functional teams (product management, implementation, legal, finance, marketing, etc.),
 
5. Possess high level of comfort escalating and presenting key deal issues to Google senior management when appropriate; solution-oriented mind-set a must,
 
6. Ability to manage several time-sensitive project/deals at once in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction,
 
7. Fluent in English, French (preferred) and other native African languages (preferred).
