Pursuant to the provisions of the Ekiti State University Law No. 11 of 2011, the Governing Council of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti hereby notifies the Academic Community and the General Public of the existence of a vacancy for the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University and the intention to commence the process for filling the vacancy .
THE INSTITUTION:
Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) emerged from the consolidation of the three erstwhile universities in Ekiti former University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti and the University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti and University of Ado-Ekiti. The objectives of University include:
A. Acting as an agent of development through applied research, technical assistance, direct consultation, information services and internship programmes
B. Provision of innovative educational programmes of high standard regardless of the nature of the degree being pursued, as long as this has importance and
relevance for the state and national development;
C. Meeting of the specific manpower needs of Ekiti State in particular, the nation and the world at large;
D. Serving as a custodian, promoter and propagator of the State’s and nation’s social and cultural heritage.
POST TITLE: Vice-Chancellor
THE JOB:
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, ex-officio Chairman of the Senate and a member of the Governing Council Among other functions, the Vice-Chancellor shall:
- Be competent to advise the Council at all times on any matter affecting the policy, finance and administration of the University;
- Be generally responsible to the Council for maintaining the efficiency and good order of the University and for ensuring discipline and the proper enforcement of the statutes, ordinances and regulations;
- Be responsible for discipline in the University; and
- Regulate admission of students subject to guidelines and procedures approved by Senate
REQUIRED QUALITIES & QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant for the post of Vice-Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti must possess the following qualities and qualifications:
i) Have been a Professor in an institution of high reputation for a minimum of ten years by October, 2011;
ii) Have extensive and deep experience in all facets of University administration and also capable of providing academic leadership;
iii) Be a person who, judging from his/her track records, commands respect both nationally and internationally in the academic sphere as well as have a track record of consistent and inspiring leadership;
iv) Be morally sound, of unimpeachable character and integrity, free from financial embarrassment, and enjoy excellent physical and mental health;
v) Be computer literate and have adequate administrative and research experience for a sustainable realization of the mandate and mission of the University
vi) Must be a person who is not likely to pursue racial, ethnic, political, religious or other sectional interests;
vii) Must have specialized in a course that is relevant to the teaching and research mandate of Ekiti State University. Ado-Ekiti,
viii) Must be equipped with adequate administrative and research experience for a sustainable realization of the mandate and mission of Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti;
ix) Be endowed with the knowledge and experience of how to raise funds to supplement government subvention;
x) Have ability to develop linkages with external communities to meet the emerging needs of the University,

(xiv) Names and addresses of three (3) referees who should be able to attest to the candidate’s academic and managerial abilities as well as his moral character and uprightness. (The candidates should request their referees to forward references directly to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti within the deadline for the submission of application).
SALARY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in all Nigerian Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Government or the Governing Council.
