POSITION:   Crane Mechanic (REF: 52929)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Ensures that the maintenance, breakdown services and/or mechanical repairs of container handling cranes and RTGs are maintained in a cost effective manner, with consideration given to quality work and longevity of equipment.
  • Carries out maintenance and repair service for all crane equipment.
  • Lubricates moving parts conducts preventive maintenance service on all types of gantry crane equipment
  • Provides maintenance and repair services for container handling gantry cranes and RTGs.
  • Carries out mechanical maintenance repairs, fault finding and monitoring of equipment.
  • Ensures work conforms to safety rules and regulation.
  • Reads service manuals, analyzes investigates mechanical faults.
  • Reconditions usable parts to minimize maintenance costs.
  • Determine cause of failure of mechanical components of crane equipment.
  • The key impact of these incumbents will be the maintenance of operational efficiencies in the terminal to ensure availability of equipment required for the execution of day to day operational activities.
YOUR PROFILE:

1. B B.Eng/B.Sc/HND/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering from recognized institution. Any additional training in both mechanical/hydraulic fields in any heavy industries will be preferred.
2. Requires at least three to five years of experience in crane maintenance section in any ports, mines, steel and manufacturing plants, including specific knowledge of mechanical/hydraulic and related subjects.
3. Requires specific technical knowledge in the maintenance and repair of quay cranes, rubber tyred gantry cranes spreaders.
4. Must be able to replace/repair/adjust major mechanical/hydraulic parts such as brakes, wire-ropes, trolley, gantry wheels, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, couplings, and so forth.
5. Requires a good knowledge of repairs for cranes and RTGs spreaders.
6. Requires ability to interpret mechanical/hydraulic diagrams, service parts manuals.
7. Requires the ability to follow instructions plan the work day.
8. Requires the ability to be responsive to emergency breakdowns and repairs with quality workmanship and service.
9. Requires the ability to learn fast.
10. Valid Driver’s License.

THE JOB:
 

The scope of the job starts with maintenance of equipment for raw water abstraction at the Intakes, through all stages of treatment, and ends with pumping the treated water into the various storage reservoirs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

1. Preparation of monthly Progress Reports as directed by the Project Manager,
 

2. Receive and apply allocations of ‘Imprest’ funding for repairs and maintenance of plant and equipment and ensure that all expenditures are reconciled and retired as directed by the Project Manager,
 

3. Repair and maintain water production plant and equipment at intakes, treatment works, pump houses and other installations, carrying-out routine and emergency repairs and maintenance of equipment including, pumps, valves, compressors, motors, compressors, generators, etc.
 

4. Co-ordinates maintenance activities with other Project Engineers to ensure that all plant and equipment for water production is available and in-service for continuous treated water production,
 

5. Research, prepare and control costs and Engineers’ Estimates in connection with maintenance activities, 

6. Provision of inspection services to ensure quality standards for repairs and other services undertaken by Third parties meet the required specifications,
 

7. Provision of on-site supervision, advice and assistance in planning and executing all repairs of water production plant and equipment including the replacement of such equipment and in the inspection and commissioning of refurbished equipment,
 

8. Design and implement programmes of on-site training and instruction for Plant personnel in 
matters related to maintenance engineering,
 

9. Prepare and disseminate as necessary technical reports, maintenance records, job sheets and time sheets, equipment specifications and information, maintenance schedules, plans and activities,
 

10. Provide reports and assessments of staff and in conjunction with the project Manager participate in rectifying matters related to discipline, absenteeism, organisation, etc.,
 

11. In conjunction with the other engineers in the project, conduct equipment inspections and surveys to determine the operational condition of plant and equipment together with the preparation of written reports as necessary and follow-through of recommendations for remedial actions, repairs, replacements, etc.,
 

12. Maintenance of quality standards and Health & Safety rules.
 


REQUIREMENTS:
 

1. Degree-qualified/Licensed/Indentured Engineer with 10-15 years practical experience of mechanical engineering in a continuous process production environment, preferably in water industry installations,
 

2. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (certificates) in water-related subjects, such as, chemical dosing, OEM courses, H&S Certification, Safety at Work, First Aid, hydraulics, water treatment, etc.
 

3. Must possess lead skills in mechanical engineering and have strong secondary skills in electrical engineering and used to working with compressors/blowers, agitators, diesel generators, pumps (including submersible pumps), actuators, electrical control panels and systems (familiarity with PLC systems is very desirable), valves and pipe-work, etc.
 

4. Craft skills (e.g. metal working), welding, workshop organisation and practices are equally desirable,
 

5. Fully conversant with Health & Safety at Work issues and working with hazardous equipment and materials,
 

6. Managerial, supervision and project competences – time management, negotiation, man-management, organisation and planning, training/instruction skills, and problem solving; ability to work alone without supervision,
 

7. Experience in Africa will be appreciated,
 

8. Fluent in English,

POSITION: Shutdown Co-ordinator 

THE ROLE/DUTIES: 
  • Prepare the calls for tender and contracts specific to the shutdown for ECP activities;
  • Prepare marked up drawings – isometric, P&IDs etc to clearly show the scope of work and the battery limits; 
  • Set up the organization using the construction contractors, the necessary team to manage the shutdown; 
  • Develop contract scope for shutdown activities, as required; 
  • Perform clash analyses for the purpose of enhancing safety, improving quality, improving schedule, and reducing cost; 
  • Develop detailed work packs for assigned area of responsibility utilizing agreed activity norms, work pack guidelines / templates / tools; 
  • Issue early enough, an integrated planning with manpower requirement for the shutdown; 
  • Monitor field execution progress and report progress for the purpose of project monitoring and evaluation;
  • Follow up with workshop fabrication works in conjunction with ECP QA/QC and ensure that all project deliverables are prepared, signed off and easily accessible by the Field Operations team;
  • Organise contractors’ equipment for pre-mobilization inspection by liaising with HSE for pre-mobilization inspection activities;
  • Organise contractors equipment/materials load out and personnel mobilization early enough to ensure the completion of preparatory works;
  • Supervise shutdown preparation and operations;
  • Comply with the requirements defined by the Project integrated shutdown steering committee;
  • Liaise with Field operations (Onshore and Offshore) with respect to the assigned ECP shutdown activities, risk assessment and meetings;
  • Produce the shutdown reports;
  • Provide feedback as learning curve for subsequent shutdown activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:

THE ROLE:

POSITION: Trainee Operators/Technologists (Reference No: TO.01A/TEC.01B)


RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
The appointee will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the assigned plants on a shift basis.


JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
  • Operate the process and service units within the prescribed limits to achieve production targets for quantity and quality, safely and efficiently; 
  • Execute on a daily basis, routine and non-routine operations for the assigned area taking due care to implement all HSE consideration for the activity; 
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance in accordance with appropriate procedures; 
  • Participate in shutdowns; 
  • Manage process and service unit’s start-ups and shutdowns competently without affecting units that are to remain online; 
  • Undertake constant evaluation of plant-operating conditions so abnormalities are promptly resolved; 
  • Ensure effective start-of-shift orientation and shift handover;
QUALIFICATION:

The right candidate should: 

  • Possess a Higher National Diploma (HND)/National Diploma (ND) in Chemical, Process, Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, obtained at a minimum of Upper Credit
     
  • Have graduated in the last 5 years
     
  • Not more than 29 years old
