THE INSTITUTION:
The Rivers State Polytechnic was established by the promulgated of the Rivers State Edict No.2 of 1989.
The Polytechnic was established to provide middle level technical manpower for the Nigerian economy in general and Rivers State in particular. The Rivers State Polytechnic is an institution of excellence and is nationally acclaimed with a combined part time and full time student populations of about 10,000. The Polytechnic has strong collaborations with Common Wealth Association of Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA), United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) National Automotive Council of Nigeria, Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), GT Technical Group of the United States of America amongst other organizations.The current four-year tenure of the present Rector will come to an end in November 2011. The Polytechnic is hereby seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of:
POST TITLE: Rector
THE RECTOR:
The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic and has the general responsibility for matters relating to the day-day administration of the institution, subject to the policy control of the Governing Council.
The Polytechnic is seeking as its next Rector, a leader of distinction with demonstrable commitment to the values of a research-led institution and who possesses the ability to inspire vision, nurture ambition and win the confidence of staff and students.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Candidates for the position must possess the following qualifications:
- A Doctorate degree or a Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines:
- Applied Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Technology, Management and Social Sciences with at least 18 years professional and administrative experience, at least five of which must have been gained in an institution of comparable status,
- Demonstrable ability to offer academic & administrative leadership as well as the ability to effectively discharge the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Rector,
- Evidence of scholarly publications in reputable Journals,
- Candidates must not be below the rank of Chief Lecturer in a Polytechnic or Reader/Associate Professor in a University or equivalent institution,
- Candidates must possess membership of reputable professional body/bodies in Nigeria and be able to command the respect and loyalty of the majority of members of staff and students of the institution,
- Evidence of ability to attract funding/linkages with/from research based organizations.
The selection process includes interviews which are followed by a presentation by candidates on their vision and mission for the Polytechnic over the four years.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT/CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
A. The appointment is for an initial period of four (4) years and may be renewed for a second term of (3) years, subject to satisfactory performance,
B. The remuneration in Nigeria including other benefits and allowances that may be approved by the Governing Council of Rivers State Polytechnic from time to time,
C. Other conditions of service are comparable to what obtains for Heads of tertiary institutions in Rivers State.
