United Nations Children’s Fund Latest Jobs in Nigeria: Recruitment for Consultants

JOB VACANCIES:
 
PURPOSE OF ALIGNMENT:
  • To provide seven (7) states of Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Kano, technical experts for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of management of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and community infant and young child feeding (C-IYCF) activities at the state, LGA and community levels including supporting rapid nutrition (SMART) surveys and Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) week activities.
POST TITLE:   Consultants

DUTY STATION: Seven (7) selected States in Northern Nigeria as mentioned above.

MAJOR TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED:
  • The consultant is expected to support the effort of state governments in the selected states to promote child survival and development in the country, through reaching, preventing and treating malnutrition especially SAM, among children under 5 years of age,
  • The Consultants will work in the seven northern states of Nigeria as mentioned (Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, Gotnbe, Adamawa, Kano and Bauchi),
  • Networking with International NGOs such as HKI MSF, Save the Children, ACF Clinton Foundation. Valid International partners and stakeholders at state LGA and community levels to scale up the management of severe acute malnutrition and community infant and young child feeding activities with detailed documentation of all implementing facilities (OTPs, SC, and In-Patient facilities) as well as facilitate replication and leverage resources,
  • Providing technical support for,
  • The scale up of CM AM in assigned states,
  • Effective operation of systems for community and facility-based management of severe acute malnutrition in children aged under S years in high burden states,
  • Integration and scale up of C4YCF implementation activities,
  • The development of local capacity for supervision, monitoring and evaluation of progress for improved management of severe acute malnutrition programs,
  • The preparations and implementation of rapid nutrition (SMART) surveys,
  • Assist with planning, positioning and delivery of adequate and appropriate nutrition supplies to children and pregnant women as rapid response to emergencies,
  • Submit detailed monthly reports including data on C- IYCF and CMAM activities (admission, defaults, cure and deaths as well as stock levels),
  • Articulate and submit quarterly work plan for approval,
  • Under the management, direction and supervision of an institutional agency, the consultant will be expected to work closely with State LGAs communities and traditional institutions.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

The specific qualifications for the consultants in the specified categories are as indicated in the attached TORs. 

In addition, they should posses the following:
  • University degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Biochemistry or related technical areas, and at least three years’ experience, preferably in management of childhood malnutrition, promotion of C-IYCF, nutrition in emergency, basic nutrition programming, proven track record of working in developing countries and promotion of the management of severe acute malnutrition using local human and material resources,
  • Ability to implement, supervise, monitor and evaluate severe acute malnutrition and C-IYCF programmes,
  • Ability to plan for nutrition assessments using SMART methods,
  • Proficiency in written and oral English language, good conceptual, negotiating, communication and networking skills, as well as familiarity with working in a multi-cultural environment,
  • In-depth understanding of malnutrition and household food security from nutrition/public health point of view,
  • Computer literacy and demonstrated skills with statistics analysis software,
  • Fluency in English and ability to understand and speak local language will be an advantage.

ESTIMATED TIME OF CONSULTANCY & DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF END PRODUCT:

This consultancy is expected to cover a period of six months and may extend as may be required,
