International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Job: Vacancies for Senior Pharmacist, Mechanical Superintendent

Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solution with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals to fill the positions below at the institute’s Kano Station and Headquarters in Ibadan.
POST TITLE: Senior Pharmacist (2-year renewable Contract)
RESPOSIBILITIES:
Successful candidate will among other things:
1. Establish and manage a standard pharmaceutical procedure for the Institute’s clinic,
2. Prepare and handle all ‘restricted drugs,
3. Be responsible for procurement of local and foreign drugs,
4. Stock drugs, vaccines and dressing consumables worth over $0.5m,
5. Advise physicians on various aspects of pharmacology,
6. Ensure that international standards are upheld and,
7. Perform any other assigned duties.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor of Pharmacy plus minimum of 8 years relevant working experience in a well structured establishment or international organization,
2. Candidates must be a licensed professional in hospital pharmacy,
3. He/She must have sound analytical mind, good communication skills and be computer literate..
POST TITLE: Mechanical Superintendent (Water Treatment Plant) (2-year renewable contract)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Successful candidate will:
1. Plan preventive, repair and maintenance of all water plants, drinking water, Sewage and Swimming pool plants,
2. Install and maintain multi-stage vertical turbine and Surface Pumps and Blowers,
3. Maintain associated appliances such as Aerators Compressors and Level Control Systems;,
4. Initiate treatment plans and supervise the supply of about 1.2 million litres of high quality drinking water per day,
5. Supervise treatment and safe discharge of about 8,000 litres of waste water per day,
6. Treat and maintain high quality Swimming Pool water of about 385,000 litres,
7. Ensure Quality Control of all waters: Drinking, Sewage and Swimming Pool,
8. Initiate procedures for purchase of spare parts and treatment chemicals,
9. Supervise Water Treatment Operation and the maintenance staff,
10. Carry out other duties as may be assigned by Supervisor.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
1. B.Sc /HND Mechanical / Water Engineering plus minimum of five (5) years post-qualification working experience in a reputable water treatment plant,
2. Must have good working knowledge of water plant maintenance and water treatment techniques,
3. Candidate must have good interpersonal skills, be honest, trustworthy, hardworking and be able to coordinate shift duties, be ready to work overtime.
