Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Jobs: Vacancy for Chief Ethics Officer


Our client is the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the apex regulator of the capital market in Nigeria. SEC’s mission is to develop and regulate a capital market that is dynamic, fair, transparent and efficient to contribute to the nation’s economic development. Having set some ambitious goals, the Organization is seeking highly motivated and result-oriented professionals to take up various leadership responsibilities:

JOB TITLE: Chief Ethics Officer (ES00577)
 
THE CANDIDATES:
 
1. Reporting to the Director General, the successful candidate will be responsible for fostering and maintaining integrity and ethical behavior,

2. Handling internal complaints about business practices; regularly dialogue with potential whistleblowers,

3. Monitoring key result areas of the regulatory and compliance functions in the Organization,

4. He/she will also be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Organizations’ operations and ensure that they are consistent with the code of ethics. 

Specifically, the candidate will:
 
1. Develop, initiate, maintain and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the Organizations ethics programme
 
2. Create a reporting system and method for employees to report ethical lapses or illegal activities
 
3. Design and deliver training programmes to familiarize employees with the Organizations’ compliance and ethical goals
 
4. Ensure that the Organizations’ code of ethics is a dynamic document and that it is modified to reflect changing attitudes and concerns within the business world
 
5. Deepen and communicate the corporate values of the Organization and incorporating them into a code of ethics
 
6. Guide employees in making the right decisions where ethical issues are concerned and investigate reports of-unethical activities
 
7. Make periodic reports to executive management and the Board on the state of corporate ethical affairs.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. A good first degree in any field of study from a reputable institution. An MBA or any higher degree will be an added advantage.
 
2. Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ post-qualification experience with at least five (5) years in the financial services industry,
 
3. Strong corporate governance knowledge.
 
4. Proven track record of strong ethical conduct.
 
PERSONAL SKILLS:
 
In addition, eligible candidates for this position must possess
 
1. Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills in both formal and informal settings with key stakeholders.
 
2. Excellent leadership, planning and organization, as well as people management skills,
 
3. Excellent relationship management and strategic networking skills at the highest level in both private and public sectors,
 
4. High sense of responsibility, accountability and dependability.
Proficiency in the use of computer applications.
